SGT University celebrates 1st Foundation Day: week long celebrations kick off
SGT University, Gurgaon is celebrating its first Foundation Day with a host of programmes, spread over a week starting 24thJanuary culminating in the Convocation on the last day.
The event began with the inauguration of the Foundation Day celebration by lighting the lamp by the Chief Guest V.K. Gupta, Former Chief Justice, High Court Uttrakhand and followed by Kulgeet and Saraswati Vandana by the students of the SGT University, Gurgaon.
This was followed by a lecture by Sh. Rajiv Malhotra on “India and the Encounter of Civilizations and the Philosophical Unity of India” today. Sh. Malhotra, an Indian-American researcher, writer and an authority on current affairs and how they relate to civilizations, is the founder of Infinity Foundation, Princeton, New Jersey, USA. He spoke on the strengths and weaknesses of India vis-à-vis its vastness in terms of population, diversity of languages, religion, and traditions.
Carrying the celebrations forward, a two-day Sports Meet began today. Students participated in numerous competitions like 100mt race, 200mt race, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Relay race, Javeline Throw, Short Put, Discus Throw, Tug of War etc.
A Health Mela, Quiz Contest and a Cultural Programme are the other highlights of the week long celebrations at SGT University.
Over 4000 students from other school/colleges are expected to take part in the various activities that have been organized in the university campus. A large number of people from the surrounding villages are expected to attend the Health Mela. That is being held with an aim to make the rural population around the Institution premises aware of the health problems to pre-empt the diseases. A cultural programme will also be presented by the students of the University for the entertainment of the passing-out students of SGT University who are going to be awarded with BDS, MDS, BPT and MPT degrees in the Convocation scheduled for the 28th January, the last day of the week long celebrations.
Talking about the first Foundation Day celebrations, Vice Chancellor, Dr. T.D. Dogra said, “It is a proud moment for us as we complete our first year as a University. On this day we rededicate ourselves to our mission to impart holistic education, conduct cutting-edge research and provide medical and dental care services to the people in the local community.”
