GLOBAL INDIAN FOUNDATION (GIF), DONATES S$1 MILLION TO SINDA

unnamed (4)Global Indian Foundation (GIF) and Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA) and, today entered into a partnership and the former announced  a donation of S$ 1 million to the later, for aiding students under SINDA’s main tuition programmes: ‘STEP’ and ‘Project Teach’.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) this partnership will extend for 10 years and promises an annual steady flow of $100,000 each year to support the curriculum used in SINDA’s main tuition programmes. It allows SINDA to draw up long term plans by allocating this  fund  to support the needs of students enrolled in ‘STEP’ and ‘Project Teach’, over the next decade.

Both the organisations aim to support the entire Singaporean Indian community and to address the socio-educational challenges facing the community in a multi-racial Singapore. GIF has always been at the forefront of all endeavours to ‘give back’ to the society. Thus, while SINDA actively seeks and welcomes partnerships and collaborations with organisations to extend its outreach and assistance, GIF has always extended their support for socio-educational collaboration. Envisioned with the objective of promoting cultural education, GIF is led by distinguished personalities from diverse fields, including Dr Justice C S Dharmadhikari, Mr Chandu Borde, Mr Inderjit Singh, Mr Karan Singh Thakral and Mr Atul Temurnikar, just to name a few. GIF’s donation will enable SINDA to develop leading edge curriculum content with best practices from around the world.

GIF President and Co-Founder, Dr. CS Dharmadhikari, Former Chief Justice of Mumbai High Court has inspired the inculcation of universal values of peace and harmony. He strongly believes that sharing is the basis of building a common platform in the society.  “Our citizenship is constructive and conducive to the development of universal brotherhood. It is our ideal that the whole cosmos should become a universal family and all its denizens should share a relationship with each other. This is in essence the purpose of this MOU which I heartily welcome and wish it all success,” Dr Dharmadhikari said.

Bringing educational benefits to help the underprivileged in the Singapore society and fostering integration through socio-cultural platforms has been always been the way forward for GIF Co-Founder and Chairman, Mr Atul Temurnikar. He has spearheaded several initiatives to encourage GIF team members to undertake cross cultural association for community programmes in Singapore.

GIF has been actively contributing on cultural education front to the Singapore community during the past 10 years. The Foundation instituted Global Indian Cultural Centre (GICC) with the mission of preserving and promoting Indian culture amongst the expatriate and local community in Singapore through a rich array of developmental programmes and activities. The organisation has played an active role in community integration across various platforms.

SINDA believes that the impact of GIF’s donation will lead to the use of better curriculum materials and classroom pedagogy. It will also result in better mastery over the subjects, and in the long run, better results and more quality passes at major national examinations like the Primary School Leaving Examinations and the GCE “O” and “A” Level examinations.
