In order to mark the opening of new SUBWAY® restaurant in Hari Nagar, West Delhi, a SUBWAY® sandwich, auctioned for the first time in India, generated a sum of Rs 51,000 for the cause of providing a better future to underprivileged children.

The bid for the most valuable sandwich, a delicious submarine sandwich (Sub) packed with the freshness of veggies and low-fat condiments, commenced from Rs 1,000 and witnessed a close competition between two bidders by the end. The deal was sealed by a winning bid of Rs 51,000 from Mr Angad Singh Saluja, 26, a businessman and writer, who outbid a total of seven contenders to claim the title of the highest bidder.

Mr Manush Sethi, owner of the new SUBWAY® franchise in Hari Nagar, donated the entire amount raised from the auction to the Child Rights and You (CRY) foundation. “CRY has been instrumental in crusading for Child Rights to free and quality education along with making a healthier life accessible to children. I am thankful to Mr Sethi for making us a part of this event and thinking of the larger good,” said Ms Alakananda Ghosh, Senior Manager, CRY foundation.

The restaurant represents an important milestone in the brand’s journey in India that began with the opening of its first store in Delhi in December 2001. Globally, the SUBWAY® brand has more than 40,000 restaurants spread across 103 countries.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sethi said “I am delighted to be associated with the Subway restaurant chain. It has a delicious menu full of wholesome food, quite popular among the health-conscious youth, who desire a quick bite which is fresh, healthy and tasty, all rolled up in one.”

SUBWAY® restaurants are completely owned by local franchisees who are entrepreneurs that appreciate the opportunity to work hands-on. The low start-up cost, simple operational methods, flexible floor plans and worldwide brand recognition of SUBWAY®restaurants make the chain appealing to potential franchisees.

At SUBWAY®, all sandwiches and salads are made to order, right in front of each customer, to their specifications, using the ingredients they select from a wide variety of lean meats, fresh vegetables, freshly baked breads and low fat condiments and sauces. The brand works closely with local chefs and regional suppliers to ensure a good balance of vegetarian and non-vegetarian offering specifically selected to appeal to the Indian palate.
